In this project, a swarm of Monarchs flies across a Hoffman Fabric, Dream Big blossom while another Monarch takes time to light and enjoy the nectar. The technique used to create this dynamic scene is turned edge applique.
The wings and bodies are individually machine embroidered and then assembled on the already quilted background fabric. This method creates dimension and provides a finely finished project. There is also an option to install wire in the wings so they can be manipulated into a 3 dimensional fabric sculpture. There are 5 sizes of the full winged butterflies and one butterfly viewed from the side. To create the largest butterfly wings requires a hoop size of 200 x 360 mm.
There are 2 options for the details in the wings. 1. The wing can be stitched with a single fabric such as a multi-colored batik or hombre fabric. 2. The wing details can be painted with fabric paint.
