Serger Club


Learn how to use your serger for more than rolled edges and seams! Each quarter we will utilize a different technique and help you think of ways to do more with your serger.

September - "Leggings"

Supplies:
*  Serger with 4 thread overlock (preferred coverlock for hemming but not required)
*  thread to match (4 cones)
* scissors
* pattern weights or pins
* 3/4" - 1" elastic x length of waist
Fabric: 1 1/2 yd  4-way stretch knit fabric with at least 50%
stretch horizontally and vertically with good recovery.  Look for
spandex or lycra in the content.

(Fabric can be found at Elfriede's in Boulder, Colorado Fabrics in
Denver or online at "So Sew English fabrics" or "Sly Fox Fabrics",
"SewVagabond", Vinegar & Honey", "KnitPop".  Look for Double Brushed Poly
with 4-way Stretch.

October - Fleece Stockings with flatlock

Supplies:
  • Serger with 4 thread overlock (preferred coverlock for hemminng but not required)
  • thread to match ( 4 cones)
  • scissors
  • pattern weights or pins
  • 1/2 a yard of colorful fleece - I prefer non-pill thinner fleece.
  • Serger with overlock/flatlock stitch
  • 4 cones of thread
  • Thread snips
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Double-eyed needle

November - Tops to Dresses
Supplies:
Serger with 4 thread overlock (preferred coverlock for hemming but not required)
*  thread to match (4 cones)
* scissors
* pattern weights or pins

club.  I will be making Agnes and maybe one of laundry day.  If you need help picking a
pattern, let me know.Or, if you need help printing it, just let me know.

We will focus on using the serger for as much of the construction as possible. If you don't
have a serger, we will let you use one of ours.  Call it a test-drive!

December - Round Napkins

Supplies:
*  Serger with  3 thread overlock
*  thread to coordinate - 30 or 12 weight cotton (2 cones), 1 cone regular serger
thread

* scissors
* pattern weights or pins
Fabric: 2 pieces of fabric (coordinating) per napkin - please cut to 18" x 18" 
We will be cutting these down to a circle during the serging process
* Extension table with circular "pin" (if your serger did not come with an extension
table, we will cut the circles  prior to assembly.)
* 505 spray (or other spray  adhesive)
* Fray check
*double-eyed needle

January 2018  - "Winter Leggings"

February  2018  - "Serger Cover"

Supplies:
*  Serger with 4 thread overlock (preferred coverlock for hemming but not required)
*  thread to match (4 cones)
* scissors
* Batting - 30" x 20" and a second piece 30" x 10" for the pocket (if you are
making a pocket)
Fabric: 2-3 fabrics (cotton quilting or light home-dec). NOTHING stretch.
The total measurements of the fabric when pieced together must measure 30"x20"
You will need a front and a back.  If you want a pocket, you will then need 3 pieces,
a front a back and a pocket all measuring 30"x20" either whole fabric or pieced.
We will be piecing the front, back and pockets on the serger.  Do not piece them
in advance.
You will also need 4 pieces for straps that are cut 1" x  20"
