Some understanding of basic garment making will be helpful. If it’s been awhile since you sewed clothing that’s fine – we will have you remembering everything before you know it.

Description

During this 2-session class we will go from yardage of fabric to a fun versatile jacket that you will get lots of compliments when you wear it. You will learn how to lay out a pattern and cut out the pieces. Then you will learn the basics of garment construction, tips on how to work with different fabrics and how to finish the jacket with top stitching.

Prior to class:
  •        Register for class & pick up pattern
  •        Purchase fabric
  •        Prepare your fabric. You will want to wash your jacket it’s important to treat your fabric before you sew it.  Wash your fabric in the hottest water that is recommended (make sure that any shrinking happens before you cut out your jacket). Similarly dry your fabric on the hottest setting that is recommended. If your fabric is batik I recommend treating it with Retayne as recommended on the Retayne package. Then wash and dry to preshrink. (you may still want to wash your jacket separately but the Retayne treatment will make a big difference on eliminating the color running.
  •        Iron your fabric so it is ready to lay out the pattern and cut when you get to the class
