Weave yourself a fabric placemat
Supplies:
**We will be making ONE RED placemat above in class. The supplies listed below will
make 1 placemat. If you want to make more than 1 placemat on your own, multiply the
supplies by the number of placemats except for the backing and insulbright.
- Weaving tool for 1” strips-wefty needle - included in class price
- Sewing machine in good working order with power cord, foot control & regular
- presser foot
- NEW 90 Microtex needle
- Iron (available at the store to use)
- Scissors
- fabric glue
- 18 x 22 pinning/ironing surface (foam core, cork, or wool mat)
- 18 x 23 iron on interfacing
- 1” bias tape maker to fold 2” strips to a 1” finished prior to class (use iron)
- Thread to match
- Fabrics:
- 1” wide finished strips as follows:
- Color A (solid red in sample) – ½ yard makes 280 inches of 1” strips: Cut 7 strips 2” x WOF. Use bias tape maker and iron to fold these strips into 1” finished.
- Color B (pink poka dot in sample) – 3/8 yard makes 360 inches of 1” strips. Cut 9 strips 2” x WOF. Use bias tape maker and iron to fold these strips into 1” finished.
- Color C (red poka dot in sample) - 3/8 yard makes 360 inches of 1” strips. Cut 9 strips 2” x WOF. Use bias tape maker and iron to fold these strips into 1” finished.
- 3/8 yard fabric for backing
- 3/8 yard heat resistant batting – Insulbright
- Binding: ¼ yard makes 80” of binding to finish edges. Cut 2 strips 2 1/2” x WOF. Join together and fold in half. Press.
Class Preparation:
Cut and press all of the 1” strips for the placemat before coming to class. If you need
help learning to use the bias tape pressing tool – stop by the store. Preparing these
strips is time consuming, and we have not alloted time in the class
